Disciplinary Procedure

For the attention of Parents/Guardians

We are a school that values the moral principles of the Muslim faith and respect the rules and laws of our country. It is our responsibility to teach our students the importance of respecting the society in which they live whilst reflecting the values of Islam. There are occasions when discipline must be adhered to in order to protect our values.

We require the support of family in order to encourage our students to achieve both academically and socially, in order to become beneficial members of our community and wider society. We depend on the contributions of parents when dealing with behavior concerns.

New Horizon Community School believes every member of the school is equally entitled to pursue the benefits of our school; we can therefore not tolerate the infringement of another student’s rights especially when suppressed through prejudice. The environment we wish to encourage is one of respect and understanding, whereby issues can be dealt with in a manner that reflects the values of New Horizon Community School. It is equally important for students to understand that their teachers must be treated with the utmost respect. Any form of abuse towards them will be dealt with severely – there will be no exceptions. The protection of the school and those who are a part of it are the responsibility of management.

Policies and procedures are in place to ensure a fair system is followed throughout the school. The Head Teacher however reserves the right to act freely in accordance with school values to protect the interests of the school. The guidelines depicted above are in the interest of teachers and students. They are not intended to restrict actions but are to promote a fair process when dealing with young people. Parents are entitled to appeal against disciplinary decisions made by the school. They are to raise concerns with the Head Teacher.

In order to appeal a decision made by management, parent(s) can request a form from the school office. Once completed, the form should be returned to the school office.

This will be made available for the attention of the school governors who will make a decision in regards to upholding or overturning a disciplinary decision.

New Horizon Community School encourages the use of methods that promote positive behavior without use of threats or intimidation. It is important however for there to be fair and effective consequences when the rules and policies of the school are in disrepute. A system has been establish to ensure that efficient and consistent action is taken in addition to enabling students to reflect on their own behavior. The objective is to guide students when they make a mistake in order to avoid creating a sense of judgement and provocation.

Subject teachers are at the forefront of disciplinary procedures since they are the main point of contact with students. It is therefore important for the positive behavior procedures to be in their interest so that learning continues in every classroom environment whilst ensuring the health and safety of every individual student.
